Mat Martin was a talented middle order batsman and pace bowler who represented Northern Districts and Bay of Plenty at age group level in the mid-1990’s while he was a student at Rotorua BHS. Mat played his club cricket for Rotorua BHS and Arawa CC before heading off to university to train as a teacher. On his return to Rotorua Mat played club cricket for Central CC before heading overseas, as so many cricketers do, to play and work in the UK. On his return to Rotorua Mat taught at Rotorua BHS and turned out for the school in the Baywide Premier competition. Mat is now living in the Eastern Bay of Plenty with his wife Tessa and their children and works as a teacher at Whakatane HS. Mat became unwell with the flu and is currently in Auckland City hospital in the Cardiovascular ICU. Those that have played with and against Mat will know what a competitor and fighter he is. Mat is in one hell of a fight right now and there is a Facebook page “mat updates” where you can leave messages of support for Mat and his family and share stories. 034, 22 Aug 2018 00:00:00 +1200 https://www.rotoruacricket.co.nz/blog/800748 Rotorua Cricket Association AGM 2018 https://www.rotoruacricket.co.nz/blog/799782 The Rotorua Cricket Association's Annual General Meeting for 2018 will take place on Wednesday 26th September, 7pm and will be held at the Cricket Pavilion, Smallbone Park, Rotorua 033, 14 Aug 2018 00:00:00 +1200 https://www.rotoruacricket.co.nz/blog/799782 Senior Representative Selector https://www.rotoruacricket.co.nz/blog/797964 Senior Representative Selector Bay of Plenty Cricket are seeking expressions of interesting for the following role: Bay of Plenty Men’s and Development Men’s – Selectors POSITION Senior Representative Selector (Men & Development Men’s teams) REPORTS TO BOPCA Cricket Manager KEY TASK The main role is to select the BOP Men and Development Men’s teams SELECTION RESPONSIBILITIES • Take an active interest in local cricket across the region to identify potential players for senior rep teams. • Be available to discuss with player’s their performances and team selection or non-selection. • Be proactive and engaged in selection discussions (and willing to voice views) SELECTION A combination of the following should give the selectors an in-depth knowledge of the players in contention for selection: • Liaising with key, trusted people in clubs (i.e. feedback on other team’s players). • Attending key matches to observe specific players. • Observation of player’s skills and attitudes throughout winter training, trials and premier games. • Communicating closely with Men’s and Development Team coach For more information or to express an interest, contact Tai Bridgman-Raison tai@bopcricket.co.nz This is an unpaid position.
